Juan A. Ramirez

is a New York-based Venezuelan-American writer and critic focused on film, theatre and all forms of pop culture, as well as queer issues.

His writing has been featured in The New York Times, New York Magazine, T: The New York Times Style Magazine, them., INTO, HuffPost, Dig Boston, Exeunt NYC, Theatrely, and The Huntington News.

Born and raised in Caracas and South Florida, undergraduated and overvalued in Boston, he recently obtained an MA in Film and Media Studies from Columbia University for his thesis, "Melodramas of Masculinity: Queerness and Gender in 21st Century Venezuelan Film."

With experience in criticism, academic and feature-writing, programming and film/events publicity and marketing, Juan is aggressively available for any and all arts work.

He is certainly putting to use all these years of obsessive film-watching, wearing out of cast album vinyls and those Psychology and Musical Theatre minors.
